DRUM SET- GETTING STARTED

Getting started on drum set is almost as easy as counting to 2. Try it: 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2.

Now count 1 2 1 2 while playing the hi hat or the ride cymbal with each count. Play these notes with your right stick. Next, with the left stick, add a snare drum note on every 2 count. Repeat this many times. The last step for this beat will be to add the bass drum on every 1 count. In three short and easy steps you’re playing a rhythm on the drum set. This time instead of musical notation, I’ll write the rhythm out with these letters: C for cymbal, S for snare drum and B for bass drum. Here is what is looks like written out: C C Repeat this many times.

B S

Practice and get ready for the next beginning series lesson. We will add 8th notes on the cymbal and also count to 4!
